Black and brown tomatoes. A marvelous sight!

1. Original Name: Chestnut Chocolate.

2. History: Bred by tomato breeder Brad Gates (Wild Boar Farms, USA). A recent variety developed in 2016.

3. Plant Specifications: Mid-season. It can produce fruits for a long time. A good choice for a greenhouse and outdoors. Indeterminate, tall bush, growing up to 5.6 feet (170 cm) tall. Thick stem, regular leaf. Regular truss. 5-7 fruits per truss.

4. Training Instructions: This variety can be trained to two or three main stems. Staking and pruning are a must.

5. Shape and Weight: Beefsteak and sometimes round fruits. Weight: 2.1-3.5 oz. (60-100 g).

6. Color: Due to their amazing black and brown color, these tomatoes look like chestnuts. There are swirls of anthocyanin near the stem end while the bottom part later turns brown or dark red. Dark red in a cut.

7. Flavor Profile: Pleasant taste being sweet and slightly tart. Flavor with a fruity aftertaste. The flesh is sugary, and the walls are thick and meaty with a lot of juice.

8. Culinary Use: Perfect for long-term storage. The fruits can stay on the bush for a long time and keep well for a few days after harvesting. Ideal for tasty and beautiful salads. A good choice for canning whole tomatoes.

This is a recent variety so it may have certain variations. Many of those who have already tried growing it say that the main thing that changes is the weight of the fruits. According to the original characteristics, the weight must be 1-2.1 oz. (30-60 g). However, some tomato breeders had amazing large fruits weighing up to 5.3-7 oz. (150-200 g). An unusual variety being a fun to watch.
