Many people recommend growing these large bi-color pear-shaped tomatoes!

1. Original Name: Синяя груша, or Sinyaya Grusha (Blue Pear). Also known as 'Синяя груша Духова', or Sinyaya Grusha Dukhova (Dukhov’s Blue Pear).

2. History: Bred by Ukrainian tomato breeder Ruslan Dukhov. As far as we know, Blue Pear was developed from a cross between Bleve P-20 and Black Pear.

3. Plant Specifications: Mid-season. A heavy cropper being a good choice for growing both in a greenhouse and outdoors. Indeterminate, tall bush, growing 5-6 feet (150-180 cm) tall. Medium-thick stem, regular leaf. Regular truss, 5-6 fruits per truss.

4. Training Instructions: Blue Pear can be trained to two or three main stems. Pruning and staking are a must.
5. Shape and Weight: Pear-shaped fruit, sometimes with shallow ribs near the stem end. Weight: 3.5-5 oz. (100-150 g). The first truss can produce fruits weighing up to 7 oz. (200 g).

6. Color: Blue Pear is of a unique color. Deep indigo anthocyanin coating at the stem. The rest of the fruit turns to the red and brown chocolate color at the bottom. Dark red in a cut.

7. Flavor Profile: Gourmet flavor. Very sweet and spicy, rich and bright. The flesh is glossy. The fruits are fairly meaty and fleshy.

8. Culinary Use: A universal variety. Perfect either for salads or for canning whole tomatoes. An ideal choice for juices or paste. Keep well for about 4-5 days after harvesting. No cracks on the skin.

This variety is stable except for ribs near the stem end. Our fruits were uniform. Yet we know that some gardeners had fruits with deeper ribs. This minor deviation can be explained by cold temperatures at night when flowers grow together thus producing fruits with ribs.
