An old heirloom variety being over 100 years old.

1. Original Name: Early Detroit.

2. History: An old variety originating from Detroit (Michigan, USA). Bred by Mr. Rosendahl of Ft. Leavenworth (Kansas, USA). Later released by D.M. Ferry Seed Company in 1909.

3. Plant Specifications: Early maturity. A good choice for a greenhouse and outdoors. Indeterminate, tall bush, growing 6 feet (180 cm) tall. Thick stem, regular leaf. Regular truss, 3-5 fruits per truss.

4. Training Instructions: The bush can be trained to two main stems. Pruning and staking are a must.

5. Shape and Weight: Round and smooth fruits. Large fruits are rather flattened and round. Weight: 5.3-10.6 oz. (150-300 g).

6. Color: Bright pink. The flesh is of the same color in a cut.

7. Flavor Profile: Very tasty! Sweet, juicy and flavorful. We liked the fruit very much. The flesh is buttery and can melt in your mouth.

8. Culinary Use: A good choice for tasty and rich salads. Perfect for juices and sauces. Ideal for canning. Do not keep well as this is a salad-type variety. The skin is thin but with no cracks.

Early Detroit is a stable variety and a heavy cropper with smooth and tasty pink fruits.
