1. Original Name: Vorlon.

2. History: An accidental cross between Cherokee Purple and Pruden’s Purple that appeared in the garden of Joe Fisher (Winterport, Maine) in 1998. After it was stabilized, it was named after Vorlon, an alien race from the sci-fi TV series Babylon 5.

3. Plant Specifications: Mid-season for outdoors and medium early for a greenhouse. Indeterminate, tall bush, growing up to 6.5 feet (200 cm) tall. Thick stem, potato leaf. Regular truss, 4-5 fruits per truss.

4. Training Instructions: It can be trained to two or three main stems, and staking and pruning are a must.

5. Shape and Weight: Flattened and round fruits of the salad type, sometimes with shallow ribs near the stem end. Weight: 7-10.5 oz. (200-300 g).

6. Color: Brown and purple. There are green shoulders at the mature-green stage, which turn dark brown later. The flesh is dark red in a cut, with green seed cavities.

7. Flavor Profile: Sweet and slightly acidic. Bright and smoky flavor resembling that of many purple tomatoes. The flesh is juicy.

8. Culinary Use: A perfect variety for canning. The canned fruits have an intense flavor. Also delicious in fresh salads.
