An old heirloom variety cultivated in the past by descendants of Dutch Anabaptists. Beautiful and delicious.

1. Original Name: Tiffen Mennonite.

2. History: The Mennonites are members of an Anabaptist denomination created by Menno Simons in the 1530-1540s. Today they live in the Netherlands, USA, Canada, Germany and Poland preaching humility, non-violence and renunciation of wars. Some of the Mennonites emigrated to Russia and Ukraine (Zaporizhia, Khortytsia) to avoid the persecution in the 18th and 19th centuries.

They lead a very modest life and always have gardens and flowers near their houses, which are clean and full of light, and their family relationships are always good. Today they are hard to find. This is a vanishing denomination. However, they will remain in our memory due to the Tiffen Mennonite tomato variety.

As far as known, this variety was first discovered as a variety cultivated by the Mennonites of Wisconsin. It was first introduced to SSE by Thane H. Earle (Whitewater, Wisconsin) in 1985.

3. Plant Specifications: Mid-season. A good choice for a greenhouse and outdoors. Firm bush with a thick stem. Large and broad potato leaves. Loose regular truss, 3-6 fruits per truss.

4. Training Instructions: Tiffen Mennonite can be trained to two main stems. Staking and pruning are a must.
5. Shape and Weight: Flattened and round fruits, sometimes with shallow ribs near the stem end. Weight: 7-17.5 oz. (200-500 g).

6. Color: Bright-pink and visually pleasing. No spots. Pink in a cut.

7. Flavor Profile: Delicious, sweet and slightly acidic, full-flavored and very juicy. The flesh is slightly sugary and soft.

8. Culinary Use: Perfect for delicious and full-flavored salads. Also good for juices, sauces, paste and canning.

We loved Tiffen Mennonite for its beautiful firm bushes with exquisite broad leaves. These bushes are of the decorative type. All of the fruits are smooth and beautiful. It has proved to be a stable variety.
