Tomato 'Komnatnyi Surpriz'

1. Original Name: Комнатный сюрприз, or Komnatnyi Surpriz (Room Surprise).

2. History: A variety originating from Russia. Developed by tomato breeders from Gavrish, a Russian farming company, with the support of researchers from the Moscow Research Institute of Vegetable Breeding. Entered on the State Register of the Russian Federation in 2011.

3. Plant Specifications: Early-season. Determinate short bush, growing up to 1.6 foot (50 cm) tall outdoors. You can grow these tomatoes in pots in your balcony or in your room but the plants will be smaller in size. There are 5-6 fruits per truss.

4. Training Instructions: No pruning is required but it is recommended to tie the stems.

5. Shape and Weight: Elongated plum-shaped (Roma) fruits. Weight: 2.1-2.6 oz. (60-75 g).

6. Color: Red.

7. Flavor Profile: Sweet and slightly tart, with a pleasant tomato flavor. The walls are very firm and sugary in a cut.

8. Culinary Use: A perfect variety both for fresh salads and for canning whole tomatoes. The fruits keep well after harvesting.
